Jackson County Fair

Jackson County ARES/RACES and Amateur Radio Club were present at the annual Jackson County Fair this year. The booth was fully operational each night with VHF, UHF, HF, Digital, and Satellite Tracking stations. Saturday evening was also the Boy Scouts of America annual workshop where our members demonstrated Amateur Radio to the Scouts and Scout Leaders including portable operation, Go-Boxes, and Digital Modes.

Jackson County ARES Meeting

The first ARES group meeting was held on Thursday, June 25th at the Jackson County EOC. Pictured from left to right:

Special thanks to Tim and Wayne from Huntsville/Madison County RACES for coming out to help us get ARES up and running in Jackson County!

The next meeting will be Thursday, July 23rd, 6:00pm – 7:00pm at the Jackson County EOC. All persons interested in ARES and serving a vital role in your community are invited to attend.

JCAR at Fort Payne HAM Tailgate

Jackson County ARES/RACES

K4NHA

The primary purpose of Jackson County ARES/RACES (JCAR) is to provide severe weather spotting and emergency communication assistance to the Jackson County EMA and the National Weather Service, as well as providing emergency communications to all local authorities if needed during any emergency in the area.

JCAR holds regularly scheduled monthly meetings on the second Saturday of each month at the Hollywood Community Center in Hollywood Alabama. The address is 6759 Co. Rd 33 Hollywood, AL 35752.

The meeting starts promptly at 10:00AM and we invite everyone that is wanting breakfast to stop by Shorty Machen Grocery before the meeting.
Backup meeting sites are the Jackson County Rescue Squad building on Cedar Hill Drive in Scottsboro and when weather permits, the metal pavilion at the Jackson County Park.

All JCAR Members, local HAMs, and anyone interested in amateur radio are encouraged to attend. For more information on meetings please see here.
